Daddy Daughter Days: An Underrated Hidden Gem

So after watching the Brutalmoose video I mentioned yesterday, I decided to search for this live action abomination and it turns out to be a musical\TV special originally made in 1976. So I decided to sit through the hour long special while I played Minecraft. And I must say, this was actually a decent adaptation of Pinocchio. Sure, some would complain about the absence of Jimminy Cricket, but even without him present it was still good! And not to mention the songs, too. Those were quite catchy to listen to even when you're being attacked by zombies and spiders. If you wanna watch for yourself, here's the movie in full.

Sandy Duncan (Pinocchio) also did an AMAZING performance.

All musical critique aside, I'm planning on spending the day working on writing some of my stories. I have an original one semi tied to the Pinocchio cinematic universe. Might make it into an LPS adaptation someday once the story is complete. I also have some ideas to discuss with dad involving a project we haven't touched in a couple years.

Daddy Daughter Days: SOLD (hopefully....)

We found another person interested in the table! Say they wanna come by on Saturday morning. The one stick in the mud though is that I have music class at 10:00. Maybe see if they could come at 10:30 after you drop me off, dad? Yeah, I'll text them today and reschedule for a 10:30 meet-up. It shouldn't be a deal-breaker. (Fingers crossed!)

Gotta get this thing outta here fast.

I should also be expecting a package sometime this afternoon (not Mitch). So I'll keep my eyes peeled for that.

Update:

Yep. She arrived this morning and works FLAWLESSLY! An amazing addition to my 16 year collection. Maybe we'll find some MIB sassy cats at the flea market this weekend?

Also, I'm watching a Brutalmoose VHS video and-
DOUBLE YIKES!!!

So apparently this is a LIVE ACTION Pinocchio movie from the 70s! I'll admit, the cat looks fine. But
(Dis)Honest John? What have they done to you!!! Pray for me.
Got a running joke for Mitch in plan with these cats.

Daddy Daughter Days: Who Came First?

Turns out we aren't the only ones taking a deep dive into blank tapes!

Oh, yeah! Brutal Moose has been doing this for a while, now!

Maybe we'll have luck at the flea market this Sunday? Who can tell... Also, stay tuned for an upcoming video showcasing a future tribute coming out in a few months.

Daddy Daughter Days: Give Us Some Space

Mom and I are thankful that we get to stay home today. And honestly, I am in no mood to leave the house. Just wanna stay home, work on movies, etc. Today's project is a promo for a future tribute video of mine. Yeah, so some of my popularity stems from old Mary Kay Bergman tributes I used to make when I was around 14 years old. And well, guess I'll be dishing out two tributes a year now (depending on my motivation levels).

Coming either Halloween 2022 or March 2023.

Dis someone say, "Mitch Hedberg?"
Well THAT didn't take long!
Its editing\animation time!!!!

Daddy Daughter Days: End of the Line

Well...I finished the tape last night. After a bit of "Chances Are" there was a brief commercial break before it then cut to a weak signal. So safe to say, we hit the end of the line. Was this 2002 time capsule wouth the $1? I'm gonna say yes. Its just fascinating what you can find on these things. And your thoughts on this wacky experience, dad?

If anyone isn't in the mood to dig through to find our other updates, here's a list of the content that was on this tape.

-Rocket Power Marathon (Featuring "The Race Across New Zealand"). This was a new one on me! Basically the Rug Rats as "dope" skateboarders. Total insincere pandering.

-Last 2 minutes of a "Guiding Light" episode. No context. Couple find a glove on a merry-go-round horse. Mmmmm... OK?

-Full episode of Oprah discussing Women and Heart Disease More pandering. One out of two women will experience heart disease. Said Oprah over and over and over.

-Some news reports involving shootings and robberies circa Valentine's 2002. Missed this segment.

-WBKids block featuring Pokémon "Electric Shock Showdown," and Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries. What can one say? It's Pokémon! Tweety and Sylvester Mysteries? Inessential, but better than Tiny Tunes or Animaniacs.

-A fair portion of the shitfest called "Chances Are." Dunderheaded romantic fantasy "comedy." A failed date night movie.

Hope to find more hidden gems like these at our local Goodwill (and other thrift store locations). Overall, a pretty interesting time capsule. Oh, man those computer graphic kids commercials! MY EYES!!!

Did somebody say, "Mitch Hedberg?"

Daddy Daughter Days: Wake Me Up When September Ends (In 4 Days).

Time went by quicker than I thought! Here's today's weekend rundown.

Morning

It was one of those mornings where I woke up one minute, and fell back asleep the next. My body finally got itself together around 8:30 and I managed to lug my sorry butt out of bed. By this time, dad was getting ready to make the rice krispie treats while I poured myself a bag of cereal.

The two of us spent the remainder of the morning watching Mitch Hedberg on Archive.org. Apparently there was an unaired episode of "Crank Yankers" where he made a guest appearance? On the topic of said individual, Budsies gave us an update saying they were getting the fabric together for my plush.

Afternoon

Dad and I left for pantry around 12:15 I wanna say? Well, actually...We got there a bit early, but can't complain. The two of us started packing short orders while we waited for our usual crew to pile in. I think we (me and dad) wound up packing around 6 orders today? Not too shabby! But a quick word of advice, don't use freezer bags. They smell like fish and cat vomit.

Daddy Daughter Days: On The Down-Low

Mom suggested we stay home today for a change, so we did.

Morning

Slept in a tiny bit today, waking up at about 8:00am on the dot. Mom left for work a minute later and dad and I went on to make French toast for breakfast. Yes, that is a new tradition. The two of us wound up re-watching Smiling Friends (Episodes 2, 3, and 9) since it just felt like that kind of morning. After breakfast, dad had to take care of some business as somebody was interested in buying that table we got a while back. As of now, we are still working on things, but are hoping to have one side of our garage back soon.

Afternoon

Last night, I suggested to dad that we get a bag of marshmallows to make rice krispie treats since we had a box in our pantry. We planned on doing that last weekend, but that is a Bruno that will not be talked about. So the two of us went around the corner to buy some of those fluffy little uhhh candies?

Family Dollar

I went browsing through the "Back To School" section since I'm always looking for any art supplies aqnd journals for stuff like writing ideas for videos and fanfics alike. Dad went on the search for marshmallows and turned up dry.

Me: You find any marshmallows?

Dad: There's one bag of mini marshmallows left....

Me: Yeah, well why can't we ge-

Dad: "Assorted Fruit Flavored" marshmallows...

YUCK!

So we trudged off to Wegmans (was next door to Family Dollar) and got our bag of marshmallows there.

Daddy Daughter Days: Fall Is On Its Way!

Ah my favorite time of year. Leaves on the trees start to turn the signature fall colors. Reminds me a lot of the days when dad had to rake leaves and pine straw at our old house, that didn't last long with having a little kid back then. I'm pretty sure there's a picture of me holding a pinecone, but we'll worry about that later.

Not to mention blowing the pine straw off the roof! Those trees gave your mother nightmares!

Right now, I've got yet another video to make today! But in the meantime, I have a Home Movies animatic premiering on my channel this afternoon. I also posted it to the art blog, but its still processing...

Speaking of fall....
Got my costume!

UPDATE: Found the picture!
Here stands a then 4 year old me holding a pinecone because ain't that what ALL 4 year olds do?

Daddy Daughter Days: UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Mom and I are gonna go to Spirit Halloween today to pick up my costume. If people couldn't already tell by the title of today's blog, I'm going as Tina Belcher from "Bob's Burgers."

Yknow, dad maybe you could go trick or treating with me this year. It'd be like Bob and Tina!

Anyways, Not gonna do much today other than satisfy the villagers of Hollysburg by designing homes amongst other things. I've also gotta work on some other projects behind the scenes. Maybe we could work on "Jackasses" while we try to sit through the shitfest that's "Chances Are."

Daddy Daughter Days: An Overhated Masterpiece.

Dad and I finished watching the Pinocchio remake last night. And I cannot stress this enough when I say this was a very well made retelling. Yes, even with most of the changes and additions of new characters, it was still a really good watch! My only takeaway of this personally would be to get a different voice actor to play Jiminy Cricket. Whoever did his voice seemed like he was kind of phoning it in. Other than that, highly recommend!

Now to work on "Jackasses." Father can add in his two cents on his own accord.

I thought it was a little over-cooked, but not bad overall. I thought the Jiminy voice actor did an acceptable Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards impression. Watching this did not ruin my life which is what all those internet reviews would have one think.

UPDATE: Mitch just got his design approved by Budsies.

Daddy Daughter Days: Rainstorm Over. BRAINstorm In Session

I first saw a post that is now deleted about voting. But since I was concerned that it might have been a hacker, I deleted it. (BTW, dad. Let me know if that was actually you).

Yeah, it was me. I thought since you're old enough to vote maybe it would be a good idea to register.

Anyways, on the switch front. Things are working as intended. Still trying to adjust to a normal, non drifting experience unlike the past 3 years I've had with that issue.

Dad wants to take a look at my old joy cons and see WHY they're drifting. Maybe Nintendo can learn a thing or two once we figure it out.

Next up, I have an original project called "Jackasses" in the making. The series takes place on a long since abandoned Pleasure Island where Lampwick is the last donkey standing as all the others were shipped off to the salt mine. He then befriends a former chariot horse named Alec and the two have sort of a sibling like dynamic where Alec is the more responsible of the two.

I think Ron DeSantis saw Pinocchio and decided to lure two planeloads of refugees to his own idea of "Pleasure Island." TOPICAL!

Here are some things I've fleshed out for the pilot that I wanna tackle tonight if we've got the energy.

-Introduce the characters.

-Build the relationships between characters

-A B-plot where Alec and Lampwick find a young mule named Zander and taken him under their wi- hoof.

-Some joke about Lampwick trying to use air quotes.

So yeah, that's the plan.

Daddy Daughter Days: Game Over...

My joycons of almost 4 years have finally bit the dust. Looks like we'll need to get a new pair at Gamestop.

Was thinking about getting THIS pair since it's Animal Crossing themed.

Or maybe this one?

ZELDA THEMED JOYCONS!!!!

What do you think, dad? Maybe we could stop somewhere over the weekend and get a pair! (Maybe find more of those Animal Crossing figures too????)

You have some money... want to go tonight?

I think that can be arranged! We'll talk it over after dinner and see which ones are open! Hollysburg ain't gonna take care of itself you know.

Daddy Daughter Days: What's Up, Doc?

Was gonna pull out another VHS update yesterday, but there was too much going on. But we're here now!

So we finished that Pokemon episode where it treated us to a Team Rocket music video shortly after. A few commercials and bumpers later and we tune into Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries! This Looney Tunes spin-off is just what it sounds like. Sylvester and Tweety get into all sorts of shenanigans followed by Granny and Hector. We got two episodes but I only managed to take photos of one. Each episode brought a callback to other LT characters that I had never heard about up until that point!

I thought the show was ok. Very underrated though since I've never heard this series be brought up ONCE! There was a LT character in the second episode where dad explained a joke with said character from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. I'll let him elaborate on that when he gets his two cents in.

Pete Puma showed up for no apparent reason to be Sylvester's antagonist. Also, Cool Cat put in a cameo appearance. Again, for no reason. I give this series an attaboy for staying true to the model sheets and eschewing the spastic squash and stretch on display in the Animaniacs series. (This is the faintest of praise, but all I can  muster, here.)

Next up, "Chances Are." A cheesy romantic comedy from the 1980s.... Am I the only one seeing red flags here????

HERE is the Wikipedia page on this film.  I dunno...

Daddy Daughter Days: Mariel The Media Whore?

13 years ago, this article came out from a place back in my hometown. And wouldn't you know it, but my dad appeared in the photo! Take a look for yourself!

Well 13 years later, his daughter would get a turn in the limelight.
This was a post from 4 days ago that took place at my music class. Today, we had filming and I managed to make a few friends there today! One of the staff members went all gaga over my Carol McCormick cosplay and we wound up talking about South Park during lunch break. Great stuff!

Anyways about that comic con....It was a fail. My Pokemon guy wasn't there, so dad and I made up by going to the Goodwill I've been meaning to hit. I wound up with some plushies for $7 (one of them was on sale because of the tag color). Now to think of what thrifts we could hit next weekend? Maybe Savers and Salvation Army?

Will dish out the next VHS update tomorrow!

Daddy Daughter Days: A Father Daughter Investigation III

Managed to sit through the rest of that Oprah episode. After that, there were a few news reports about some shootings and robberies that took place Valentine's Day 2002. Jus then, the screen went blue for a few seconds. At first I thought it was the end of the tape, but it would be too soon. Luckily, this shows up seconds later.

Knowing that this was a cartoon that us father daughter detectives were familiar with, unlike Rocket Power. I saved it for when dad got home from work that evening so we could watch it after supper.

Later that night, we let the festivities begin.

First we were treated to "The Animaniacs Suite" which was just a collage of clips from previous Animaniacs episodes. I personally have a fairly small frame of reference with the show since one of the songs became a meme for a short lived time back in 2018 (you know the one).

After that, we sat through a few commercials as well as a Pokemon sweepstakes where you could get a chance to win all the cards that were released (at the time). After that, we finally got to our feature presentation.

The episode in question is "Electric Shock Showdown" where Ash and his friends have to battle against a very powerful Pokemaster who has a knack for electric type Pokemon. This man was so destined to win that as soon as he got a Pikachu, he used a thunderstone to evolve it to a Richu right away!

Team Rocket get into some funny antics so far such as trying to disguise themselves as a cheerleading squad for Ash's pikachu. We'll be diving deeper into this Pokemystery tonight!

Care to throw in your two cents so far, dad?

First off, not-a-fan of The Animaniacs. It's a smug cartoon series that thinks it's oh-so-funny.

Pokémon is a law unto itself. I felt good about knowing that a Richu is the "evolved" version of a pikachu!  We'll have to see the second half to find out how our scrappy little hero triumphs over his mismatched battle competitor.

I liked the fact that Team Rocket apparently just stalks these guys and peeps at them through windows.

Let's take those photos of the kitchen set, while it's still light out, before we settle in for more Gotta-Catch-Them-All action.

PS: I'll be catching some more Pokemon from the convention tomorrow. Hope to find some REALLY good ones lol.

Daddy Daughter Days: A Jam Packed Saturday

We're gonna be super busy this weekend. First I have my filming class (which coincides with the music class from a couple weeks ago) in the morning, followed by the "Mini Cosmic Comic Con" shortly after, and then I have my furmeet later that evening. Looks like Carol is going bowling \sarcasm.

So here's how I'm gonna handle my cosplay.

1) I'll wear my "I'm With Stupid" shirt to class (I'll cover it with my denim jacket so people don't get offended thinking well...yknow).

2) After class, dad will pick me up to grab a brief snack. After that, I'll put on my makeup and pick one of the 9 Kennys on my bed and off we go to the con.

3) I'll attend the furmeet in cosplay (but minus the makeup).

To quote my dad....That's the plan.

Oh yeah, and I'm ordering my Budsie tonight.

Next week, dad and I can reserve our seats for the Paula concert. I found a pair on one of the balconies that I think would give us a good view of the stage.

VHS UPDATE: I managed to get past the Oprah episode. The screen then cut to blue for a few seconds. At first I thought this was the end of the tape. But then I see THIS!
Sounds like we'll be watching Pokemon on WB Kids tonight!

Here's a link to a Rocket Power episode:

Daddy Daughter Days: Insert Hedberg Quote Here

Life has been giving me lemons. So HOPEFULLY if the budget can handle it, I'll be buying my next plush.

Plus Budsies is having a 15% off sale this week. Might wanna hop on that!

Maybe later tonight, we can add some finishing touches before submitting. Now to work on my original project, JACKASSES!

Gotta fix the hair color, right? (Not exactly. Just gotta specify that his hair is dark purple and not black)

"Jackasses?" I love it! (MORE INFO ON CRAIG'S EGGS!!!!)

Daddy Daughter Days: Let's Try This Again

Back in 2021, we were making plans to go see Paula Poundstone perform at a venue somewhere within range of our turf. Sadly, thanks to COVID, I couldn't go since I had just gotten my second vaccine and one of the requirements were to be at least 2 weeks past second shot or have a COVID test 72 hours prior to the concert. I could not meet any of these requirements at the time, so we missed out. (HINT HINT: I got something even better out of it though.)

BUT!!!!

Thanks to some news from a friend of ours, we found out that Paula will be playing again at a different venue, and while the location is a bit far, we should still make it (fully vaxxed). If we can afford it this week, dad and I can order our seats. How does THAT sound?

Saberspark seems to have "issues" with Pinocchio (2022):

Daddy Daughter Days: Here's The Rundown

I have a doctor's appointment at 10:30, followed by meeting up with my grandma for breakfast. After that, mom wants to possibly go to Party City to buy Halloween decorations.

Maybe tonight, after dad's done working on his chairs, we can hit more of that Oprah episode and dive further into what the hell could be on this tape. I'm honestly hoping for more Nicktoons and other animated shows.

Still gotta get around to watching Rocket Power episodes though...

Cuz to be honest, I'm slowly becoming fixated on RP now.

Or... we can watch Pinocchio?

Oh, and Paula Poundstone tickets are now on line:

Review of ROCKET POWER!

Welp. Looks like Mitch won't be the only thing I'm ordering this week. Sign us up for two tickets to the Paula Poundstone Rochester show!!!! I'd take mom with us, but she'd be in agony after the show with sitting for such a long time.

Daddy Daughter Days: Late To The Party

Ah, Disney. The powerhouse studio that's brought animated films for generations past and present. Well in the past 4 ish years, Disney has been branching out into doing live action\cgi remakes of films made in the past, as sort of a way to try to adapt to a modern day audience. Well, one of my favorite Disney classics recently got this treatment!

Did you REALLY think I was gonna mention the LIONSGATE adaptation that was a meme for a short period of time? But yes, Pinocchio is one of my favorite Disney movies. A lot of people have already heard the story in their youth, but the basic rundown is that one night, a magical blue fairy decides to make a lonely craftsman's dream come true by bringing his latest creation, a wooden puppet, to life. Various antics ensue afterwards while trying to drive home the moral about not lying.

As expected, lots of people already hate the remake for "not being as good as the original" or some other reason. As of right now, I have yet to see the remake. But from what I've seen online, it looks FANTASTIC! And before any of you people comment why this is "one of the worst movies of 2022." Might I introduce you to "Pinocchio's Christmas..."

Daddy Daughter Days: Background Noise

Welp. We've reached the CBS end of this VHS tape. Turns out the soap opera in question was the last few minutes of a "Guiding Light" episode.

Watching the last few minutes without context of what the hell took place before got a few chuckles out of us. There was something about someone's mom and a couple going to an amusement park at night and finding the glove that belonged to someone named "Tori." So that's where I learned that you had to know what happened every episode beforehand to know what was going on. A few commercials later and we're currently on an episode of Oprah where there's discussion of women and heart disease! Oh yeah, did I mention Dr. Quack was on this episode?
Oh. No no. Not that Dr. Quack.

THAT Dr. Quack.

Let's see what content lies ahead! Wonder if there actually IS a Power Rangers movie on this cursed VHS. Maybe there'll be more Rocket Power episodes? God, I hope so.

Note: A VCR time stamp showed up during the Oprah show that indicates this portion was recorded 02/25/2002, which seems to fit in with the commercials aired. FWIW.

Daddy Daughter Days: A Father Daughter Investigation II

Alright, so updates on the tape in regards to the timeline.

-We know this was Monday, 3 day weekend broadcast.

-As of last night, it was also revealed that this was recorded prior to the date of March 3rd. So my guess of MLK Day could be very much correct.

-Not exactly related but, the movie sucked.

Holy mother of coleslaw, the movie was just a nonstop cesspool of filler and skate puns. I mean at least one of us got a laugh over how bad it was! Now this was our first time being exposed to the Rocket Power series, so we didn't know squat going in. But I think the movie would have been better (and made more sense) if we had a frame of reference. I might see if I can get around to watching actual episodes of RP soon so I can kind of know the characters more other than what we saw in the movie. If we're able to rip the tape to our computer, or maybe even pirate the movie. Expect a review from us very soon.

Care to add your two cents, dad?

We could see how the plot was going to play out a mile away. There was an overload of morals clumsily rammed down our throats:

  • Don't play favorites!
  • Jealousy bad! Teamwork good!
  • Cheaters never prosper!
  • Marmite is yummy!!!

PS: The next show on this tape is some soap opera from CBS. Maybe we could have that play as white noise while we draw some more comics n such.

It could happen. Am still trying to work on that antique table in the garage and the lawn needs some attention.

Hmmm...Maybe after you're done with the table! Plus this weekend is gonna be focused entirely on projects!

Daddy Daughter Days: A Father Daughter Investigation!

I found a tape at Goodwill that allegedly had a Power Rangers movie recorded on it. Curious to see what time this was recorded, I bought it! Tape is roughly 6 and a half hours to be exact. So last night, dad and I popped the tape into my VCR and let it rewind. A few minutes later, I hit play....And to our shock, the tape didn't start off with anything related to Power Rangers, instead it starts off with a Rocket Power TV MARATHON!

Right now, we're trying to sit through the sub-par movie that is "The Race To New Zealand" and folks...It is SO cringe worthy, even Chris-Chan could write something better. The show just TRIES its hardest to be funny and hip with its audience, but they do get laughs. Laughs over how hilariously BAD it is! Now I'm not saying this on the Rocket Power series in general since this is my first time being exposed to it, but we're both off to a not so great start here.

But here are some helpful hints my dad and I have found out timeline wise.

The marathon took place on a 3 day weekend where kids would normally be off from school. And like the previous screenshot above says, this is from a Monday to be more specific.

And according to the dates on some of these commercials, the timeline is in 2001. So we have a specific YEAR to build off of.

More commercial footage from cereal to McDonalds and Burger King

Another thing we've ruled out is that this takes place prior to the dates of March 10 and 29th. So this had to have been LONG before the events of 9/11.

As of now, we're trying to figure out what holiday would take place to have a 3 day weekend where kids would be off of school to tune in. My thought is MAYBE Martin Luther King Jr. Day (I'm pretty sure that's before March?) we'll figure out more as we submerge ourselves into early 2000s skateboard culture.

Anything you wanna add to our current findings, dad?

MLK day is a good guess! It was on January 15, 2001.

Watching this has been really tough sledding! All the "rad" skateboarding crap and "tude" baked into these unappealing characters is really off-putting. In short, it blows.

Here is the Wikipedia lowdown on the series.

That said, this tape looks to be a time capsule of 2001 commercials & NICK program bumpers. I wonder if my Dazzle VHS-to-mp4 system will function with our current computer set up? It would be worth grabbing those for YouTube.

Lord knows what else is on this cursed VHS!

I actually thought of a Goodwill location we've passed by a couple times on the way to Savers that I think would be worth persuing. (Talking a couple weeks since we're super busy next Saturday).

Who knows? Maybe you'll find a tape like THIS?

There's A First Time For Everything

Where we live, we've got a little chain called "Mighty Taco." And let me tell ya, my parents always treated it as the to die ...
